Economic Citizenship refers to programs from a number of countries that grant citizenship and a passport in exchange for specified investments or other services provided to the country. There are also countries that offer "honourary citizenship" or offer an eventual route to citizenship, but not direct citizenship, by investment. "Economic Citizenship" or "Cirtizenship by Investment", however, refers to programs that directly and immediately confer full citizenship and the right to a passport.
We assist clients from countries with "problematic" passports obtain economic citizenship and second passports in order to facilitate business travel, or to facilitate immigration, including for dependent children who may be subject to passport and travel restrictions due to military service obligations.
From an international law standpoint, it is critical that any economic citizenship program under consideration be underpinned by a clear constitutionally based enactment. Economic citizenship programs with a solely legislative or "executive order" basis are subject to retroactive change with a change in government. A Constitution is the basic law of a country and by it's nature is not easily changed. Constitutionally-based economic citizenship programs therefore in general ensure the grant of citizenship has an irrevocable legal basis and is not subject to unexpected retroactive changes by a new government in power, or by a change of government policy.
We assist clients achieve economic citizenship and obtain second passports for legitimate purposes from Antigua & Barbuda, Grenada , St. Lucia, Dominica, St. Kitt's and Nevis and other countries with constitutionally-based economic citizenship programs.
Some of these passports are particularly attractive given the speed of processing and extensive visa-free travel including to the UK, Switzerland, the EU, certain Asian countries and even China, and many other first world countries throughout the world.
Our services include not only obtaining economic citizenship and a second passport, but also explaining how the passport should be properly utilized. Simply holding a passport with visa free status for various countries is never a 100% guarantee of admission.
